The village is situated at the end of Glen Urquhart where the roads from Drumnadrochit and Loch Ness A831 and the Strath Glass to Beauly A833 roads merge. The nearby mountains include a number of Munros' making Cannich a mecca for hill walkers and a must for Munro baggers (mountaineers who wish to climb all Scotlands mountains that are over 3.00 feet high) as well as a desirable venue for those who walk the hills for sheer enjoyment.  Where there are hills there are rivers and lochs which with areas of the ancient Caledonian forest and some more recent forestry and the wildlife therein ranging from Red Deer to mice and moles, Golden Eagles to blue tits  make the area a must for artists and photographers alike as well as those that enjoy the magnificent scenery from the comfort of their car. With such an abundance of rivers and lochs fishing is also available as well.  Pony trekking is available at Cougie about 6 miles beyond the village of Tomich which is located on the other side of the river Glass from Cannich.  There are glens to explore where there is car access for several miles, of particular interest is Glen Affric which is a nature reserve and has been used in films and tv plays. Food is an important part of any holiday and is available in the village shop also in nearby Beauly and Drumnadrochit with meals available at several nearby hotels and restaurants.
